By Author: Kristi Ambrose
Article: Recently I was doing some research about solar power and I found this really interesting article about Japanese homes being sold with pre-installed solar power! This is actually a pretty amazing concept if you think about it because most of us have to install this stuff on our own. But here, you can actually buy the home with the solar power technology already installed! The whole point of utilizing solar power is to embrace the “go green” motto. But this isn’t just about cleaner air and improving the environment, its also about replenishing your bank account. Today for a solar powered watt per hour you will pay about $4! And there are new technologies being introduced every single day.

In fact, one company has introduced a system called The PV System. This system connects to the nearest power grid; whenever there is a surplus of solar energy being collected at a particular home, it is transferred to the power grid for dispersed utilization and as a way of lowering the grid’s dependence on the hydroelectrically-driven electrical energy production. Being linked to the PV System can keep your prices down as equated to full-fledged solar energy, while at once reducing down the pollution and taking pressure off the power grid system. Some places are designing centralized solar accumulation arrays for small townships or suburban communities!

So built in solar powered panels help to achieve cost saving goals. When excess power is generated by the panels, the surplus is sold back to the local power company and homeowners can make a few extra dollars. Inside these solar power pre-installed homes the walls show the mount of electricity the panels are generating and the amount the home is consuming. Now right now I don’t know of any builders in the US that have the same options for solar power pre-installation like Japan offers but I do know that there are companies that are willing to come to your house to install something like this. There are also projects in which you can do on your own. Now in my experience with reading through this information; having a company actually come to your house, can be expensive. Whereas if you do it yourself by buying a program or an e-book to help you build your own solar powered generators it costs a lot less, and I mean A LOT less. Here are a few books you might want to check out regarding solar power and building your own generators:

Earth 4 Energy – A complete step-by-step guide. This guide will give you steps on how to form your own DIY solar and wind powered generators and it’s as easy as 1-2-3! This book contains some really terrific additions to make it easy to understand and comprehend, such as step-by-step instructions and illustrations!

Make Natural Power – A great All-In-One guide. This book has been chosen among many “green” favorable Internet sites as the number 2 choice of all the books available out there (earth 4 energy being number 1). This is another easy to follow guide on how to build up your own renewable energy resources.

Home Made Energy – Easy step-by-step methods. Bill Ford is the author of this book and he will teach you a plan that he came up with on how to beat the energy companies at their own dirty games. These energy systems can be implemented into any one’s home for just a few dollars.

By Author: Art Gib
Article: As the name suggests, geothermal energy is generated from the temperature derived from the earth. Geo is the Latin word for earth and therma is the Latin word for heat. It also refers to the assembling of heat that is derived from the atmosphere, the underground and the oceans.

The geysers, situated in the fields of California, are the biggest power plant units in the world. Though the history of hot springs and steam baths spans hundreds of years, they were natural hot springs that had sprung up and were used only for heating and bathing purposes.

The use of the Earth’s heat to generate electricity started in the 20th century and is in use till today and a large percentage of our electrical power comes from the Earth’s heat.

Geothermal Energy — The Present

Today, geothermal power plants have become a popular option for countries to produce power for their electrical needs. Almost all the big countries of the world have started producing electricity with this resource.

The need for this kind of power is all the more important today because of one of the greatest threats to our planet, which is global warming. So, the search for different resources to meet our power needs has led scientists to promote the use of this natural energy source in a big way.

It is common knowledge that every source of energy has its advantages and disadvantages. But what is more important is that we as nations should recognize the need to preserve our planet for generations to come. This idea is gathering momentum now and many alternate resources have sprung up in various countries depending on their resources.

Heat from the Earth stands right above some of the other alternative resources as it has many advantages like it delivers electricity that is cheaper than others and it is not affected by climate change unlike hydroelectric power that depends on the monsoons.

Another major factor is that the power plants are scalable which means that the size of the area for which the energy is being produced is not a criterion — be it a small town or a big city. Moreover the flow of electricity is steady and does not vary.

Some of the disadvantages include impurities in the water like carbon, sulfur etc. and metals like mercury. But today with the advancements in science and technology, these impurities can be mitigated and such disadvantages are considered negligible.

Geothermal Energy — The Future

Geothermal energy is a modern source of power and is getting to be extremely popular, not only for the process of generation of electricity but also for domestic purposes. With the world growing more and more environmentally friendly and conscious, the use of geothermal energy is gaining in popularity and becoming extensive and widespread.

By Author: Michael Anderson
Article: Current trends are that solar power is increasing in many parts of the world and on every continent. The demand for homes solar power is on the increase as time goes by and it is clear that the U.S. is also included in this phenomenon. According to studies done not long ago in the U.S. concerning solar power in the home, as many as 200,000 residential accommodations are provided on a regular basis with power from photovoltaic facilities. In addition, in most cities an average of more than 10000 homes have home electricity power generation installed.

There is variation from state to state. This is also to be taken into account for the fact that initial expenses may be high. After installation however the source of energy can reduce the average electricity bill significantly. Technical challenges of getting the system in and making a run are not so involved as is the initial investment to be made. However in the long run homeowners should find that this is economical for them. This explains why some people may be somewhat disappointed with the results. Attracted by the advantages offered, many people installing home solar power in their houses and places of work have been dismayed about the elevated initial cost.

However a good case for the proposition may be made for home solar power because not only can you save money on your electricity costs, but you can also make extra money by reselling the surplus electricity. This is because the home`s solar systems may become a powerhouse for making surplus that is generated at no marginal cost to the homeowner.

Rebates may also be available to encourage homeowners to use solar power in residential areas. Again, regulations are not the same from one state to another, which is why you will need to check what the situation is in your residential area. Individual states and local authorities sometimes offer incentives only for industrial, commercial all non-profit making institutions, which are located in buildings where the home solar energy has been installed. In any case, it is worth checking on the solar rebate programs and tax credits for this clean energy source. Most states as well as the Federal government offer these, including financial incentives such as deductions, exemptions, loans, grants and bonds.

Double-checking as to the exact position in the states is important also concerning the regulation for homes solar power generators and that connection to the distribution grid. This may vary from state to state. The U.S. energy policy act of 2005 says that net metering must be made available to all customers who request it. Net metering is the term for the electricity guidelines for customers using clean and renewable energy sources who become eligible to get credit on the energy that they generate. In some cases these credits are then applicable to a portion of the electricity that is thus generated.

A useful web site is that of the DSIRE or the database of state incentives for renewable and efficient energy. This contains information on the codes, policies, standards, and regulations on the topic of renewable energy. It is a useful site to avoid all confusion and misunderstanding concerning the availability of incentives for homes surplus power.

Home solar power users are taking a major step to being better equipped and to having cheaper energy. It is just a master of remembering to do the correct planning and the studying a research before taking the steps to switch over.

By Author: Art Gib
Article: When you wake up in the morning, you might flip the light switch and turn on the light. You stumble to the shower and turn on the hot water. After your shower you might go into the kitchen and cook a few eggs for breakfast on the stove. Once your dressed and ready, you hop in the car, turn the ignition, and drive to work. To most people this is probably just a harmless morning routine. But all of these daily morning activities consume precious and increasingly scarce fossil fuels.

The consumption of fossil fuels is a major controversial topic today, especially during the current economic climate. The costs of energy and power are rising. The byproducts of the consumption and use of these fossil fuels are causing harmful CO2 levels in our atmosphere. For most global leaders, finding sources of alternative sustainable energy is one of their biggest concerns.

However, this is also a major concern for the average homeowner. Costs of utilities like gas and electricity can be expensive. Many homeowners are worried about doing their part to become environmentally friendly. Fortunately, there are easy alternatives.

The most abundant and natural source of energy is right over our heads: the sun. Solar energy can be affordable and also, what might be a surprise to many, easy to install. In previous decades, many homeowners were hesitant to switch to solar power because of the cost of installation. Many people didn’t consider solar panels a viable source of energy because, for them, the short-term costs outweighed the long-term savings. However, many companies today offer do-it-yourself guides on how to build solar panels. These guides usually cost around $50 or $60 dollars and the cost of parts and installation may be only a couple hundred dollars. Coupled with the 40-80% saved on energy bills, the benefit is enormous. And solar power is always 100% free.

Another great source of natural energy is wind power. Wind power is another free, natural, and cheap source of energy. Like solar power, wind power generators can be easy and inexpensive as a do-it-yourself project. Though wind power may not be as reliable as solar power, used together, they can be an environmentally friendly way to power a home.

Switching from fossil fuels to sustainable energy sources is a topic of much debate. But for a homeowner, it doesn’t have to be. Renewable, cheap, and free sources of energy like solar and wind power can provide all the power a homeowner needs.

By Author: Charles Cox
Article: The fact is that solar power has not been taken seriously in the past. All the non believers feel that there is an adequate supply of energy coming from the sun, but being able to capture that is energy is another thing altogether. They feel that the whole ordeal would be too costly. However, as we all know, technology has been growing geometrically over the last decade or so and it keeps getting better and better. So rather then to buying an expensive solar panel and all the equipment you would require to lower your power bill each month, you can now build your own solar panel system at home. In fact, it is very possible for your entire residence to be completely free from the power company just by switching over to solar.

This is what many of the doubters are not aware of; solar power in your home can actually be very easy. There are many types of material that attract the light and heat from the sun like metal, glass, and mirrors. These materials can not only be used to harness the power of the sun, but it also has the ability to store the energy and even transfer it to a battery. A simple car battery can be used to store the power generated by your solar power system.

Contrary to what many people believe, home made solar power programs do not have to be difficult. As long as you can read and follow instructions you can be well on your way to energy freedom and independence. And the wonderful thing about solar power is that you can start small if you desire and grow your solar power system as you would like. You probably want to get the basics of how solar works before you go all out, but when you start seeing the savings on your power bill you may reconsider and start adding on to your solar project.

It seems that everything has a price these days, so it is nice to know that the energy of the sun is still free and available. You may have to buy a few materials for your home solar system to work, but much of it can be constructed from items lying around the house. The basic components of a solar panel will be solar cells, some solder, flux, a soldering iron, and tabbing.

In a short period of time you can be enjoying your homemade solar panel system and helping the environment at the same time. Solar power is being used in places of business and by large companies but now you can have it at home as well.

By Author: Samantha Kleiner
Article: With the worries about the environment and fears about our current energy resources not being enough to sustain us, people are always looking for alternative and better energy solutions. Florida’s governor, Charlie Crist has recently started working to find alternative energy resources than just the typical gas or electric power. Crist looked to find ways that Florida can use renewable energy resources with can help to save not energy, money, and help to create jobs for the people of his state.

There are five ways Florida is working to use renewable energy resources in place of other energy solutions. The first is through solar energy. Florida Gulf Coast University is going to use the $8.5 million they received to build a solar photovoltaic which will help to power the campus. There are also plans for a new power plant in Florida. With construction of this power plant, Florida would be second in the nation for solar energy production.

Wind power is another form of renewable energy that Florida officials hope to be able to use in place of non-renewable energy resources. A wind farm of six windmills are planned to be constructed in St. Lucie County, Florida, an area along the eastern edge of Florida. If constructed it would be the only such wind turbine in Florida and would produce 13.8 megawatts of power.

A third renewable energy resource that Florida might use is wave energy. Using the waves of the ocean, the University of South Florida hopes to be able to create electricity from the constant motion of the ocean. Other universities in the state are also doing research into how the waves of the ocean could be used to create energy.

Another renewable energy resource Florida hopes to use soon is ethanol and biofuels. Lake Mary, in northeast Florida will soon be the new corporate headquarters of New Generation Biofuels. By 2010, 10% of Florida’s gasoline supply should be made up of ethanol. The University of Florida, which received $20 million in 2007 to construct a commercial-scale cellulosic ethanol plant also continues to work toward helping Florida develop renewable energy solutions.

A final renewable energy resource solution that has been considered in Florida is converting waste into energy. Through working with Progress Energy and Biomass Gas & Electric, Florida plans to soon have the largest waste wood biomass plant in the United States. This would be in Liberty County, Florida, in the panhandle of the state.

Waste wood comes from many different sources including yard clippings, tree bark, and wood knots from paper mills. These items which would otherwise be thrown out as trash are then used to create energy. Waste wood must meet certain criteria to be about to be used in waste wood plants including not containing harmful levels of certain substances including lead, pesticides, or arsenic. Biomass energy also reduces greenhouse gases because it recycles atmospheric carbon. Although Florida can’t make the world a greener place on its own, the efforts expected to be made by Florida residents in the next few years will at least do something to make our world a greener place to live.

By Author: Charles Cater

Article: So you’ve finally decided to start taking a look at alternative fuel sources in earnest. You have reviewed the Bio-Fuels currently available, E85, M85, Biodesiel. But you yearn for something with a little more pizzaz and class. You want a car that emmits no CO2′s so what choices are the automotive guys cooking up for your desires.

The current choice of the masses is a completely electric vehicle. This car is powered by onboard batteries that power it up and give it a smooth running effect. You simply plug it up the night before and you are ready for your morning commute. But that commute better be within 50 miles or you will be walking on your way home as the total range of the vehicle is but approximately 100 miles. A pure electric vehicle is still very heavy and not totally efficient at transferring the power that it has on board to the drivetrain.

The automotive manufacturers have acknowledged this fault with electric vehicles and created hybrid electrics. Currently on the market are several vehicles from Honda, and Toyota. While these are great cars they do not possess that pazaazz that most are looking forward to driving around town. Where do you turn.

The next coming fad by many automanufacturers is the Hydrogen fuel cell vehicle. This fuel produces the perfect by-product in water with no CO2 to harm the environment. The ultimate vehicle will allow you to store the H2O that you are passing as by-products of the reaction and then apply electrolysis to it to convert it back to Hydrogen and Oxygen. You will simply plug up the vehicle and charge it up. So what is the holdup and why don’t we have this snazzy vehicle currently on the road.

Hold up number one is that Hydrogen is fairly unstable and has to be stored under extreme pressures. This makes a very large concern for the hydrogen vehicle safety. What happens when the tank is penetrated. The gas under extreme pressures will be a major concern. This concern will be for the occupants and the safety crews that have to extricate individuals from these vehicles in the case of a crash.

Secondly it is hottly contested exactly how the automanufacturers plan to use the energy created by a hydrogen power pack. Do you use it as an internal combustion engine replacement or do you use it as an electrical battery replacement. It will be at least five years before we see the first mass produced hydrogen vehicles on the market.

So if you must purchase the latest and snazziest vehicles. Look for a total electric car for your automotive choice. If you are looking for the practical alternative, buy a Hybrid electric and gas automobile.

By Author: Charles Cox

Article: Do you know anyone that does not want free electricity? It is certain that all of us do. As a matter of fact, if you could just discover the means to create enough free electricity right there at your very own house, you would most likely jump at the opportunity. With the price of gas to record levels and all your transportation costs rising, the sad thing is that gas is not a renewable fuel.

You may not know this, but wind turbines are becoming a great alternative to run power at many home across our country. While it cost you to own one initially, but in the long term, you will eventually recoup your costs. And if you were to utilize wind turbines that are powered with solar panels, the two items are a powerful force in creating low cost energy.

Solar energy by itself is totally free. However, if you are not careful, the price and maintenance of a solar panel can be very expensive so you need to consider whether your want to build one or buy one to use at home.

Another potential source of free electricity is nuclear power. This kind of power is already developed in many different countries. The initial price of setting up this system is very expensive. But the bad concern with nuclear power is that people are afraid of the risks because of the incidents at Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. While it is not entirely impossible, using a nuclear power plant to run the power of the most part of the earth is expensive and risky.

When you consider all the power sources that we have mentioned here, it appears that the wind power is the most affordable. You just need to have a windy environment to effectively run the electricity. A gentle breeze will do for as long as it will keep the turbine running.

Wind turbines are very affordable. In fact, many companies today are selling wind turbines on an increasing scale. Capturing free power from the wind will only require that you install a wind turbine generator at your home.

A wind turbine can be constructed from auto parts (either new or old). Put the wind turbine at the highest place in your house as possible. Winds turbine is actually a good substitute for places that do not have access to the local power utility. Anyone who has knowledge with auto workshop and mechanic can actually build one wind turbine for himself.

By Author: Dave Roland

Article: Solar energy is one of the most renewable and cleanest forms of energy known to man. Solar power is power harvested directly from the sun’s rays. Mankind harvests solar power in several different ways. The most popular, and probably the most technologically advanced way to harvest this energy is based on solar panels. Solar panels are mechanical component devices that utilize the rays from the sun and convert them into electricity. Another way that the sun’s energy is captured is through the use of solar water heaters and/or solar air heaters. These can cut down on energy costs by using the sun to heat water or air to a certain temperature, as opposed to using electricity or gas. Heating water with electricity to 70 degrees when the water itself is 45 degrees is one thing, but using the sun, you can instead heat water to 70 degrees from around 60 degrees (hypothetically), and that can save you a lot of money on water heating costs.

Solar panels or solar arrays are used in a number of different ways. They are built onto generators for portable power, they can be built onto the roofs of houses to power them or they can simply generate energy to be used on the main grid. The only downside to solar power is that solar panels need the sun to be effective. So, at night, solar panels are useless and their usefulness is cut very short on cloudy days. Unless you can count on the sun 24/7, solar energy alone cannot be a sole power supply (unless you have enough battery power to get you through the night).

But that is also one of the benefits of solar power. As long as we have the sun, solar power will continue to give us almost free electricity. And since the Earth also needs the sun to survive, it is pretty safe to say that as long as humankind is present, we will have power from the sun.

Solar power is a good investment because it will pay for itself. The sun’s energy is free once you have the means to harvest it. And once you do, you would be amazed at how effective solar panels can be at capturing the sun’s rays. Solar energy is definitely the wave of the energy future, so why not take advantage of it? Not to mention, renewable energies might be this planet’s only hope at a bright future.

By Author: Joshua Drew

Article: There is a constant pressure to come up with better sources of energy today. When we are facing the impact to our environment that our current methods of energy give, it is necessary that we find alternative sources to lessen the impact. The energy that is contained in the earth is one of the ways that we can minimize the impact of our ever increasing energy consumption on the earth. Geothermal energy is one of the methods that have been explored for helping the environment.

There is a high cost associated with installing a geothermal, but most people who are interested in lessening the impact on the earth are not deterred by this cost. The concerns of the earth take a greater precedence over the concerns of our wallets. There is also an energy savings associated with heating and cooling the home with geothermal energy.

These systems are increasing in popularity as more people learn the benefits that can be found in using a geothermal energy system. When there are more people using this type of heating and cooling systems in their homes there will be less need for the oil that we are currently using. The people who are interested in keeping the environment safe from harm will find this the biggest advantage to using this type of system.

The problem of our dependency on oil has been brought to everyone’s attention. This is the reason that these systems have become more popular in recent years. The cost of oil and the impact on family budgets is another reason that alternatives are being sought at a rapid rate. The potential of these systems to help our environment and decrease the costs associated with the current energy methods make them a wonderful choice for many people.

Other countries have already discovered the power that the earth can deliver. In regions that contain volcanic springs, the inhabitants have already found a way to harness that power. Man’s nature is to constantly improve on the systems that we have in place.

If you are interested in finding a lower cost alternative to your current energy demands and to lessen your impact on the environment, you should research geothermal energy. There are a great many benefits, but there are also some high costs associated with having a system installed in the home. It might be a good idea to wait until the costs of this type of system come down in price a little bit. Figure out how much you can expect to save on your energy bill and determine if the initial cost of installation is worth the money.

By Author: Brent Crouch

Article: The upfront costs of installing a wind power system on your property can be high. It’s important, in order to recoup your costs in an acceptable time frame, to maximize the amount of power your system can generate.

Wind velocity is the number one factor in determining the amount of energy your system can create. An increase in wind speed from 10 MPH to 12 MPH will cause an 100% increase in power generation, so you want to make sure your system has the ability and the position to catch high wind speeds. Information on wind speed and velocity can be obtained using state wind maps, or by having a professional do a wind survey on the property.

For a quick estimate of your property’s wind speed, you can measure the speed at ground level over the course of a few weeks. Generally, there are seven days of prevalent winds and three days of energy winds in a two week period. Most of a wind power system’s energy is generated from energy wind. If the average ground level wind speed that you measure over the two week period is at least 8 MPH, a wind power system is most likely optimal for your property.

Another consideration is location. Your turbine should be 20 feet above the tallest tree, building, or other obstacle within a 400 ft radius to ensure that the wind reaching the turbines is smooth and strong. A good site for a turbine is on the highest, most exposed ground in an area to ensure that the wind coming through will hit the turbine with as much force as possible.

Along with wind speed and location, the turbine length will affect the potential output of the entire system. Shorter turbine blades will be cheaper and louder. They are designed to catch fast moving winds and generate as much energy as possible from them. When they are operating at a maximum speed, they can be very noisy. The bigger the turbine blade, the slower the wind that can be caught and used to generate energy. Large turbine blades can catch winds as slow as 8 MPH, and don’t make as much noise, but they can cost tens of thousands of dollars in installation and maintenance.

To measure the potential output of a turbine, use this formula: 0.01328(D squared)(V Squared). The number is the air density, which doesn’t vary much and so a single number can be used to provide an approximate answer. ‘D’ is the diameter of the turbine blade, and ‘V’ is the average annual wind velocity in MPH.

For example, a turbine blade which is 10 feet in diameter, placed in an area which receives 12 MPH average annual wind velocity, could produce approximately 2300 KWH/year of electricity. To get an idea of how much electricity that is, the average U.S. household uses 11,000 KWH/year. So a mid-sized wind turbine system in an optimal wind speed location can realistically provide 2.5 months’ worth of renewable electricity to the home it powers.

The energy generating capacity of your wind power system should meet the needs of your household, whether that is providing all the electricity for the home or supplementing grid energy. Finding the correct location and size of wind power system is essential in meeting those needs and in driving your expectations for the system.

By Author: Ryan Round

Article: It seems as though with every good thing there is a bad side. Such is the the case with solar energy. Solar energy is destined to be the next super star in the quest for renewable energy. On the surface solar energy appears to be the solution to our world’s energy crisis, but what is not obvious is the dark side to solar energy. The manufacturing process of solar panels uses a large amount of fossil fuels and the cells in solar panels contain toxic materials which are not readily recycled.

Environmentalists are concerned that this new technology will pour hazardous wastes into or landfills when these panels start to wear out.

Standards need to be set today that deal with the end of life of these solar panels. We certainly do not want a whole new industry that continues to pollute our planet.

It is critical that this new technology, which has so much promise for the future, be completely green from start to finish. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes that we made with the electronics industry. e-Waste is a major problem around the world. Improper disposal of cell phones, computers, printers and other electronic waste is filling the landfills with hazardous and toxic materials in a big way. Solar energy technology should not take that same route.

The solar industry is only in its infancy and accounts for only a minute amount of the power needed to run this planet. This is set to change. The newly elected President of the United States, promises to get the country on the right track to ends its dependency, on not only foreign oil, but oil all together.

The problem with pushing this technology is that countries such as China are using horrific manufacturing practices to supply components for solar power products. Story after story is being reported about the contamination of the soil, water and air in China, all from the improper dumping of toxic chemicals.

Low paid workers, many of whom are children, are dying, developing cancers and suffering from all sorts of diseases due to the manufacturing practices used today.

It is critical that as technology progresses, materials must be used that do not harm the environment. It is important to have a disposal plan in place when these units wear out or are replaced with new technology.

Many manufacturing companies want to “do the right thing”, and are working together to develop ideas on how to recycle solar panels before they become an environmental hazard. These companies do not want to deal with rules and regulations that may be passed in the future, and are willing to take responsibility for the entire life and death of their products.

Some companies have gone so far as to set up private trust funds to cover the cost of the collection efforts. This will ensure that the panels will be recycled even if the company goes out of business.

Having companies that provide solutions to the energy problem and not create environmental hazards is the road we must take in our quest for renewable energy.

By Author: Art Gib
Article: Solar electricity is derived from the conversion of sunlight through (PV) photovoltaic technology. Photovoltaic systems utilize the power of sunlight to power electrical equipment, such as lights, computers, and household appliances. The photovoltaics process solar energy that is free, into solar power directly. Solar energy is the most plentiful source of energy in the world, but it should be noted that solar energy is not the same as thermal technology that powers solar electricity, which is passive. This technology is commonly used for the production of hot water and space heating.

The basic operation of PV cells brings together a minimum of two thin layers of semi conducting material, most often silicon. When light is exposed to these layers, electrical charges are generated, being conducted away through metallic contacts, in the form of a direct current. Single cell electrical output is small; therefore, multiple cells are encapsulated and connected together behind glass, to form panels, or modules. The PV panel is the common denominator of PV systems, and any amount of panels connected together give the desired output of electricity.

There are several PV cell types. The cells made out of Monocrystalline silicon, are the most efficient of the available PV cell technologies. They have an efficiency rate of about 15%, and have a complicated manufacturing process that makes them more costly than other PV cells. Multicrystalline cells made of silicon are more cost effective to manufacture. However, they carry a generally lower efficiency rate, at about 12%, and create a granular texture. Amorphous silicon can be used in a wide range of ways, such as flexible and rigid substrates. It is less efficient at about 6%, but is easier to produce, at a lower cost. The other PV cell types are thick films of silicon, copper indium diselenide and cadmium telluride. As you can see, there are many materials currently used to produce PV panels.

Solar electricity is used to power city buildings and remote stations that relay telecom applications. When connected to localized networks, solar electricity can be sold to supply companies, or used immediately, during daylight hours. In the nighttime, with lower solar electricity generation, the power can be repurchased from the localized networks. The grid therefore becomes a storage system for solar electricity, negating the need for battery storage inclusion in PV systems.

Photovoltaic equipment that makes up solar electricity panels also contain no parts that move, and consequently needs minimal maintenance. Solar electricity is generated without the production of greenhouse gas emissions, with an operational noise level that is virtually non-existent.
