Title: The Management Of Lake Erie’s Coast: An Ohio Resource For The Future

Article: The management of Lake Erie’s coast as an important Ohio natural resource is very essential for it is a watershed that provides home to thousands of species comprised of fish, plants, wild life and other rare endangered variety. It also supplies the drinking water of Ohio’s counties along the coast, so it really is essential that the water quality found in Lake Erie is maintained. But since it is a commercial and industrial location, keeping it naturally clean and healthy is quite a difficult task to do, and would take the collective effort of both the state officials and residents.

As one of the most important Ohio source of industrial livelihood, visitors who go to the lake annually literally spend billions of dollars on the coastal region. This coastal Ohio resource is made up of small to large businesses, industries, educational institutes, lush forests, natural marshes and wetlands, etc, and one of the world’s major source of fresh water.

Planning a fishing trip or a vacation to Lake Erie requires the proper observation of regulations in the preservation of this particular natural Ohio resource. In comparison to the other Great Lakes, Lake Erie has a snow like effect when the winter’s cold winds pass over the warm waters. And since it is the shallowest of all the Great Lakes, it frequently freezes over.

Like most natural bodies of water that has a thriving civilization near it, Lake Erie as a natural Ohio resource became much polluted during the 1970s. The water’s deterioration was due to the increase of phosphorous and sediments at the lake’s bottom. This caused an increase in the occurrence of algae and fisharticle which often contaminated the lake’s shoreline. To save one of the best natural Ohio resources, an agreement between the United States and Canada in 1972 considerably lessened discarding and spills of phosphorous into the lake. This action between the two countries improved the water’s quality and even allowed sunlight to infiltrate it. Consequently, a number of species was able to propagate within the lake, hence at present, it supports commercial and industrial fishery. However, during the summer months a dead or lifeless spot at the center of the lake’s basin often continues.

Tons of cargo passes through Lake Erie and the traffic it generates is more than the other Great Lakes. It has also been known to contain the most shipwrecks. Its lakebed is favorable for agriculture leading to a well fertilized soil in Ohio’s north coast that is generally called the nursery capital

The steps taken by the United State’s Congress, of Canada and of the United States to preserve Lake Erie as one of Ohio’s top natural resources has been a good step in making it one of the best vacation and business spots where local residents and out-of-town visitors come yearly to do business or pleasure. The fact that Lake Erie could become a vacation place amidst the industrial bustle is a come-on for anybody who wishes to relax while doing business.
