Most of us have heard of Hybrid vehicles, these cars and SUV’s have a standard combustion engine along with an electric engine and some batteries. The combustion engine is only used when the electric engine and the batteries run out of power. The cost savings in fuel and to the environment are real but there is a larger cost at the dealer. Others also argue that the extra materials that are required to build a hybrid and the vast areas around the world they need to come from far outweigh the overall reduction in carbon. For me the jury is still out on the hybrid, as for the technology it is pretty darn cool!

Next and I believe the most common sense alternative are Blue-Tec diesel systems. So what is it? Basically standard diesel engines don’t emit hardly any carbon into the atmosphere but they do add a huge amount of smog pollution. What Blue-Tec does is harness this pollution into a multi stage catalytic converter system all but eliminating any air pollution. The added bonus is that these parts don’t require any special metals they are simply metal filters. On top of all of this diesel requires much less refining compared to standard pump gas. Refining fuel is a huge carbon contributor and we have another huge reason for embracing this technology!
