Keeping a house clean takes daily maintenance in order to avoid a lot of big cleaning overhauls However, despite all of our daily maintenance, the kitchen can be the toughest room in the house to keep clean The kitchen is a place where the family gathers Because we spend so much time in the kitchen every day, we are constantly getting it dirty as we prepare meals, work on school projects with kids, or just spend time there

Keeping it clean is a matter of good organization Having a place for everything can help increase tidiness and cut down on cleaning time For those of you who just can’t seem to keep the kitchen clean, here are a few tips for easy ways to organize in the kitchen

Getting your kitchen in order may require one big kitchen overhaul But once you’ve done it, you’ll find that daily kitchen maintenance becomes that much easier The first thing you’re going to want to tackle is the organization of your cabinets But where do you begin? Start by taking out everything and cleaning out the cabinets Now begin the sorting process

The lower cabinets near the floor where you keep your pots and pans are probably the worst area The solution might simply be more shelving This can double the amount of storage space you have Then organize everything into categories: glasses, plates, pots, pans, utensils, etc Consider adding a lid rack to the inside of the cabinet door to help keep wandering lids in one place

The pantry is the next problem to tackle This is likely the messiest area of your kitchen Take things out, clean, and begin anew Start by organizing by food type like dry foods, canned goods, bagged goods Consider purchasing organization baskets or shelves to help keep things separated If your spices are thrown haphazardly onto a shelf, get a counter or wall-mounted spice rack If your pantry is stuffed with half-full bags of dried beans, rice, or flour, take them out of the bags and put them in plastic bins and containers

Chances are you’ve been collecting recipes throughout the years They are likely stuffed in recipe boxes in shelves along with all the cookbooks you’ve been collecting We keep all of our music organized on our computers and mp3 players, so why not do the same with recipes? Cookbook software for your computer can help you keep all of your recipes on file in a clean and orderly manner so that you can easily search for a recipe or email one to a friend By following these simple organizational steps, you can keep your kitchen clean and tidy with only minimal daily maintenance
