Queen Size Bed Frames Offer Support

Author : Mitch Endick

After deciding to move from a full size bed to a queen size, you are confronted with the need for a new queen size bed frame Even if that old full size bed frame expands to accommodate a queen size, your old frame may be lacking some critical support

A queen size mattress and foundation is a full six inches wider and five inches longer than a full size mattress Measuring sixty inches wide by eighty inches long, a queen size mattress and foundation needs proper support

A quality queen size bed frame has a number of features that will give your queen size mattress the support it needs There are an endless number of styles in queen size bed frames but lets look first at the basic metal frame

The basic queen size bed frame is made of steel from material commonly referred to as angle iron Angle iron is rigid, strong and easily machined The basics of a bed frame are four sides joined at the corners The angle iron provides a lip that serves to support the box spring or foundation Since a queen size mattress is so large, center support bars are an absolute must The support bars add rigidity to the frame and keeps the sides from spreading out

Another very important feature of a quality queen size bed frame are the legs Four legs are not sufficient to provide adequate support for the combined weight of the mattress, foundation and the sleeper A properly designed queen size bed frame will have at one extra leg This extra leg is typically placed in the center of the frame and is attached to one of the center support cross bars Many mattress manufacturers will not honor a mattress warranty if the mattress and foundation were not supported by a frame having at least one center support bar

The legs of a queen size bed frame need to be sturdy and securely fastened to the frame Some frames will feature large plastic casters or wheels that allow you to move the bed with some ease Other frames will not have casters but instead will have pads or feet Pads or feet don not allow for easily moving the bed except perhaps on a hard floor surface The legs should not be so tall as to make the frame unstable Many bedding retailers advise against the use of leg extenders Leg extenders are sold at some department stores and home improvement outlets The extenders actually change the design parameters of the frame Raising the frame to high changes the center of gravity in a way that make the bed unstable and even dangerous

Other features of a basic queen size bed frame will include mounting plates for adding a headboard and some extended frames can also accommodate a footboard Queen size frames are also available with hooks instead of mounting plates to accommodate type mounted head and foot boards

Newer metal queen size bed frames will not require nuts, bolts or other types of hardware in order to assemble the frame Instead posts are positioned on the cross bars of the frame On the other half of the cross bar is a slot The post goes into the slot and the two sides of the cross bar are pulled together This is a big improvement over the old assembly design without the loose pieces that often get misplaced

In addition to the standard metal queen size bed frame, specialty bed frames are available that can accommodate queen size hybrid waterbeds These frames are extra heavy duty with as many as eight legs

Always consult an experienced bedding retailer for information what type of frame you need

When The Flood Is Over The Mold Begins

Author : Jim Corkern

There is much more thought being given to the devastation that mold can cause in a home Mold will live in accommodating places where there is moisture for a certain period of time Some things are more likely to have mold growth than others When products like wood, cloth, sheet rock, paper, and carpeting become wet, they are a suitable place for the appearance of mildew and mold

In living spaces or businesses that have had a fair amount of water present as a result of flooding, either from impaired plumbing or from unexpected weather disasters is likely to obtain damage because of the water specifically This water destruction may become more horrible when areas are moist long enough to encourage mold

In scenarios where a lot of flooding has occurred from weather events like tornadoes, hurricanes, and heavy rainfall that results in rivers and streams overflowing their banks, a lot of times the lowest floor of a dwelling place will get soaked with water anywhere from a couple of inches to a few feet In cases like the homes and businesses flooded by hurricane Katrina, thousands were flooded even on their second floors and in their attics Those residences obtained the worst destruction Some people could not save their homes because by the time the water went away adequately to permit them access, it had been there so long that it was impossible to salvage anything Thousands of buildings were swept away all together and those people had nothing left at all

With those that went through less devastation and only got minor flooding of a couple of inches, most of their homes could be saved It was still an overwhelming task to return their residences to their original state Destroyed flooring, sheet rock, and wood were all factors in the clean up procedure Protective clothing and paper breathing masks was worn to prevent sickness from mold exposure while cleaning up

When there has been flooding in a dwelling place on a lesser scale, like plumbing defects, the destruction might not be quite so as bad for effecting walls and flooring if it can be dried up soon enough Mold situations can be avoided if any water affected places are dried out entirely Many times residence owners will resolve small flooding like this their selves The most important circumstance is that if something does develop any mold, it must be eliminated by using a mold killer like chlorine bleach or removing the effected thing entirely Mold on areas like sheet rock or wood could need to be completely removed because it is very difficult to keep the growth from expanding

Everyone Experiences Flood Damage

Author : Wendi Watson

Think about this: Does everyone experience a house fire in their life? No they don’t How about a tornado or a hurricane? On tornados not everyone does, but most in coastal regions do experience hurricanes Well how about flood damage from a natural disaster, broken pipes, overflowing tubs and toilets, and leaky roofs? Now that is where everyone is going to experience some flood damage at one time or another If you are one of these people do read on about how you can manage this disaster of flood damage

It is an unfortunate fact that everyone is going to experience some form of flood damage This could be flood damage in a bathroom that occurs due to a leaky faucet, toilet, or a burst pipe It could be flood damage in an attic due to a roof with a hole in it It could also be flood damage from a natural disaster such as sustained rains or a hurricane There are so many possibilities There are more possibilities when it comes to flood damage than with fire damage and other types of damage that can occur to a home or even a business

How to prepare

In some cases, it is hard to prepare for flood damage Luckily, hurricanes are weather phenomenon that allows an individual to prepare If you live in an area in which the water likes to rise, you can place sandbags around your home to ward off the water and prevent flood damage Other individuals find it necessary to elevate their homes so that floodwaters can flow under them instead of into and through You’ll notice this with a lot of the homes in cities that are oceanfront and not shielded from the ocean These homes may have experienced flood damage at one time or another or they learned a lesson by looking at the flood damage experienced by others

Now when it comes to overflowing tubs and toilets, leaky roofs, and broken pipes, you can prevent those things from happening First of all, make it clear to your family that flood damage can occur if they don’t turn off faucets to the sink and tub You also need to take a look at your roof for missing shingles That way you don’t receive flood damage in your attic that can then go into your walls or other floors of your home In regards to broken pipes, it is a good idea to have a professional inspect your pipes so you can prevent flood damage The professional can tell you if you need work done so that you can take care of it before it becomes an even bigger problem

Less heartache

So as you can see, some things are easier to prepare for than others when working to prevent flood damage The important thing, though, is that you are being proactive in protecting your property and your family What you’ll also find in the event of a flood is that there will be a lot less heartache involved
